YORKTON, SK — The Yorkton Kinsmen Maulers have added to its staff, bringing back an alumni in a new organizational position.

Dustin Nehring has been brought on as the organization’s Director of Player Development. Nehring said he hopes to focus on recreating the successes he had as a player in 2001-02 and 2002-03 with the program, then the Yorkton Mallers and the Yorkton Harvest.

“When I was in Bantam … I just bled Maulers, I wanted to be a Mauler so bad. I had the opportunity and realize how good it was,” He said.

Nehring said being a part of the organization created a lot of success for him, even in business today, “by being a part of a winner back then.” He added that a large focus in his position will be stabilizing communication with families through the long-term when it comes to scouting athletes in Yorkton, and throughout the region.

“Watching U15’s, U13’s, … really trying to get out to parents and really, recreate the Maulers. Keep the phenomenal young talent in Yorkton, and give them a reason to stay in Yorkton,” Nehring said.

“To work on the future with them and the people I know in the industry. Keeping local is important, but also reaching out there and being able to land some of the great young players that aren’t in Yorkton, or maybe live an hour or two away. Just really get in peoples ears, meet parents, meet coaches, and talk to these kids.

“I love to win, and I love to win as a Mauler and as a Terrier … I’m a very competitive guy and I feel like I can bring that all to the table with the guys.”

Nehring was also a member of the 2005-06 Yorkton Terriers, a team that won the SJHL Championship and nearly captured a Junior A Championship at the RBC Cup, as well on the 2004-05 SJHL Champion group, which lost in the Anavet Cup. Nehring’s Maulers experience included being on the 2002-03 Harvest, which won the SMAAAHL Championship over the Saskatoon Contacts. The group lost in overtime in the bronze medal matchup in the 2003 Air Canada Cup.

He also spent seven seasons playing with Kinsmen Maulers Head Coach and Assistant GM, Josh Garbutt in the SJHL and senior in the Fishing Lake Hockey League and Triangle Hockey League.
