Yorkton Kinsmen Maulers name Josh Garbutt new head coach

YORKTON, SK — The Yorkton Kinsmen Maulers are making a change behind the bench. Assistant coach and assistant general manager, Josh Garbutt has been named the new head coach of the organization, effective immediately.

Garbutt has experience throughout multiple levels of elite, junior and pro experience, as well as success locally in the senior leagues, and has won at all levels of hockey. His experience playing for the WHL’s Brandon Wheat Kings, Kamloops Blazers and Price George Cougars, as well as being a pivotal member of the SJHL’s Yorkton Terriers in 2004-05, where the Terriers won the SJHL title will be essential in leading the organization. Garbutt also has experience playing professionally in the ECHL, CHL, and in the UK’s EIHL, along with time in the CIS with the Regina Cougars.

“The organization is thrilled to have a guy with experience at the pro level. It’s invaluable to have a guy that’s won at every level as a player, and we’re excited to have him behind the bench developing the young men in Yorkton,” stated Jeremy Palaniuk, Kinsmen Maulers General Manager and Associate Coach.

On Monday, the organization made the decision to go in a different direction, relieving Jason Gordon of his head coaching duties, effective immediately. The Yorkton Kinsmen Maulers want to thank Jason for his time and commitment to Kinsmen Mauler hockey over the past two seasons, on and off the ice, and in the community.

The Yorkton Kinsmen Maulers continue the season Wednesday at home against the Tisdale Trojans. In 2024-25, the Kinsmen Maulers have a record of 6-19-3-1 with 15 games remaining in the season, including nine at home at the Westland Arena.
